What do regional oil and gas market leaders expect from their participation in LIOG 2018?
Leading sponsors and influential participants in the 4th Lebanon International Oil and Gas Summit all agree that the Summit offers a great opportunity for them to network with the oil and gas industry stakeholders and to showcase their products and services within this lucrative market.
Some of those leading officials have joined LIOG in every edition since its early beginning in 2012, and have experienced the tremendous benefits of being part of this event.
The organising team of the event conducted a series of exclusive interviews with a number of those market leaders, where they were all asked about their expectations from their participation in this year’s Summit.
Hussein Fouad El Ghazzawy, VP & Managing Director - Egypt & East Mediterranean at Schlumberger, said, “The Lebanon International Oil and Gas Summit is an opportunity for industry experts and executives to come together to discuss the challenges and the road ahead for oil and gas activity in Lebanon. We are looking forward to participating and showing our customers our industry-leading technology.”
Nick Nawfal, Geo-market VP - Saudi & Bahrain at Baker Hughes, a GE Company (BHGE), who is joining the Summit for the fourth time, expressed his belief that “LIOG is a prominent oil and gas summit in Lebanon and it’s important for us to be there.”
He indicated that his company will “use this platform to showcase our capabilities and highlight how we can support Lebanon’s needs when it comes to oil and gas.”
“It is a great opportunity to network and meet government officials and industry leaders to strengthen relationships and explore opportunities for collaboration,” Nawfal added.
Nawfal emphasized his personal commitment to Lebanon and its nascent petroleum sector. “On a personal level, I have participated all LIOG summits since its beginning,” he said, “and I’m keen on promoting the opportunities that exist in the market to the region and the world to help expedite growth which will boost the economy. It’s important to work with our local partners to change the perception of investors regarding the oil and gas industry in Lebanon and to help build the right ecosystem to drive the market’s attractiveness.”
LIOG 2018 also established itself as a major platform for investment and business opportunities.
Jocelyne Tayeh, Chairperson and General Manager of United Petroleum Company, and Diamond sponsor of the event, disclosed her company’s plans to invest in the upstream sector of the industry.
“Our participation in this summit is very important, as we are one of the major companies dealing with the oil trade, have a large share in the Lebanese market and always keep pace with the oil and social activities,” she said.
On the other hand, Max Zaccar, president of the “Association des Companies d’Assurances au Liban” (ACAL) expected that his association will have the opportunity to promote the Lebanese insurance industry to the developing petroleum sector. “We will explain to all Oil players that our industry is ready and able to insure any needs required,” he said. “After all our insurance industry is the oldest in the MENA region and we have always been at the forefront of new insurance cover.”
ACAL is a major supporter of LIOG 2018, and will have a dedicated session in the conference to promote Lebanon’s insurers to over 500 high-level participants.
Other leading participants from support sectors like HSE Consulting and human resources development highlighted the importance of the summit to their businesses in Lebanon.
Joseph Chatta, Chief Executive at the Lebanon’s branch of Bureau Veritas, a French-based global leader in Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) sector, expected that the summit will offer “a great opportunity to raise awareness about our sector, meet the stakeholders of the petroleum sector and to share our large expertise and experience in drilling completion, HSE, Risk Management.”
He expressed his belief that LIOG represents “the right platform to share our recommendations based on our long-term experience with major companies and in major Oil and Gas investments worldwide.”
Bureau Veritas has been a committed supporter of the Summit since 2012.
Ricardo Khoury, Managing Partner and Head of HSE Division at ELARD Consultancy Group, a leader in HSE consulting with expanding business across the Arab region, said: “We have participated in all editions of LIOG, since its inception, and have always been very satisfied with our participations. Every time we were offered the opportunity to extensively network with industry stakeholders and to learn from an excellent conference programme. We do not expect any less this time, especially given the new momentum that has built up with the start of pre-exploration activities.”
Fadi Jawad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Eurotech Training and Consulting, Training Partner in LIOG 2018, and a leader in the GCC Countries, expected that the Summit will “allow existing visions and plans to become a reality through real job opportunities,” emphasizing that such conferences will encourage partnerships to provide support services to the industry.
“From my experience in the Gulf countries, I expect that the Lebanese market will host a large number of international companies and businessmen. Let us be ready, and let’s get prepared for the new reality,” Jawad said.
The 4th edition of LIOG Summit will be held under the patronage of HE Eng. Cesar Abi Khalil, minister of energy and water in Lebanon, on 24 and 25 April at the Hilton Beirut Habtoor Grand. All the members of the organizing team are working full power to ensure that the event will meet and exceed the expectations of 23 supporting and sponsoring organizations and nearly 600 participants from around the world.
